This is what has been keeping me busy.

I’ve been working on this little project.  I love delica beads, though they certainly are expensive.  I never have taken the dive to buy a large amount of them, I want to spend my money on a variety of beads….Any way, this is what I’ve been doing.

These were the ones.

You make this one first.  Unfortunately you have to start at the inside and sew towards the outside, which means.

lots of string.  This is the second thing you sew, 19 of these.  I’m on 15 at this time.  But there is tomorrow.

A closer look.

working thread ends.

lots of them.

But it is supposed to look like this.  I am amazed at these people for coming up with these designs.  This is one in the Bead and Button magazine designed by Melissa Van Dijk.

So I am just at the 2nd step….I have to make another patch of beads, 18 pieces with just a variation of the one with 19 patches.

Of course there are going to be some close-ups.

Unfortunately I am almost out of those colors, so I have to fall back on this pile of beads.

Not quite the same, but I’m going to see if they are going to work.  I haven’t read further than making the patches, so I am going to have to see if I am totally wasting my time, or should I just go buy some more of those delica beads in the original colors.

I mainly am trying to go through some old issues to get some more techniques down.  I’m wearing myself out making the same old things, and I want to keep finding the excitement of the beading in my head.  I feel like I am okay at it.  I want to be great at it.

Like this.  How do people come up with these ideas?

Thanks for checking in with me.  I have some time off in my future, so hopefully will be able to update frequently with some beading photos.

Thanks for checking in.

Just a little green….

I made a couple of necklaces recently….well actually the same time I made the ruffled rings necklace.  I had the same beads out, so I figured I would whip these up.

This is large beads hanging from a peyote band.

The peyote band.  This strand is comprised of a row of two 6’0’s worked into an even count peyote.  Then I add the top fringe and the bottom fringe.

This is also an adaption of Aasia Hasim’s work that she has published in Bead and Button Magazine.   This is also one of my husbands favorite styles that I made, so I take the basics of Aasia’s style and add my own fringe too it.  I’ve made about a dozen variations of this necklace.

And finally, more of a overall shot of the piece.

Thanks for checking in….tomorrow it will be blue.

Happy beading.

A little while ago….

We found this.

yep, kinda cool.  My first find ever.

Wow, look at it.

they were within inches of each other.

Though still not as good as my husband did the other day.

my attempt at a macro shot.

So we are still on the hunt.  Today was a little cold and we surprisingly found four of them right away….we will be back though.  We mainly wanted the walk not the long walk up and down the hills and valleys.  That will be for a future warmer day.

Thanks for tuning in.

Blooms on campus

I took these shots today.  I wanted to show you what it is doing in the middle of Missouri, and since the University has such nice gardens every where you look I took some of the bloom shots.

It looks great after a winter.

Close up of the above bush.  The top most photo is a different type of shrub.

One of the oaks right outside the building…nice buds.

Looks like Bradford pears outside of the president’s house on the quad.

a close up of the above flower.  Sorry I did not catch all the names of these, and some of them I know, but I don’t want to say the wrong thing…so i will say flower at this time.

of course some tulips.

though half of this tree was in the shade.  I need to take a photo of it in mid day when the sun is higher in the sky.

a shot of the quad from Jesse Hall, but looking toward downtown.

a very nice red bud tree blooming near the Engineering building.

I tried for a few close ups of this tree.

Just a quick peek

I worked these up the other day when I had my bead soup out….remember?

Okay, you can’t really tell in the picture, but those are 8’s and 6’s mostly there.  So I wanted to do something with them, heck why not, there out there waiting to be used.

So I stitched up these.

Just a simple 1 up peyote stitch, real simple and quick.

Mostly a solid color, with some darker ones added for a little variety.

I have left the strings attached for now, as I need my needle to finish off end strings on my Ruffled Rings project….I had two needles the other day, and dang I lost one…it hasn’t gone into my foot yet…I’m waiting though.

I will rework these strings back in the project to finish off the ends with loop and button closures.

Eventually I will make some of these types of necklaces with this design.  These are some of my husbands favorites that I make.

Kinda like this.  This is based on a design out of Bead and Button Magazine by Aasia Hamid.  So now I do a version like it myself.  My interpretation of her design.

I’m still working on Ruffled Rings as well.  I was having a little trouble with my string, so I wanted to take a breather from it for a day or so.

Thanks for tuning in and Happy Beading.

We went to the river.

Posted in hobbies, Travel on March 13, 2010 by beadnfun

We took a walk on the trail in Rocheport.

This is the restored depot in Rocheport.  You can find lots of pictures like this.

Here is the other direction.

Some of the high cliffs on the edge of the trail.

There were lot of people hanging out.  It was one of the nicest day so far this winter.

The kids were frolicking in the sand.

Here in Missouri, we love our river.

Later, I will post some photos of some of the houses of Rocheport.

Bye for now.

Lately I’ve been stringing.

Posted in beading, beads, hobbies, seed beads, shell beads on February 1, 2010 by beadnfun

So I have strung some pieces together lately.  I’ve taken some of the excess beads I have a lot of and just using them, trying to make something wearable out of them.

I’ve been also trying to do better with wire wrapping and working with pieces of chain.  I still don’t do a great loop, it bends this way and that, and here I am clutching at two different pliers.  aack.

So let’s see some photos. Of something.

Yep I believe this is my last bead order.  I don’t think I ever showed you these.  The box has arrived.

The pens are for pricing.  I go ahead and write the price I pay, and the date and year, so that if the prices go up I can adjust if I sell anything.

I get so excited when I get my order, or course I have to take photos.

So as you can see I have a variety of cool beads and a group of sale beads that I like to use for my bases for some of my bracelets and necklaces.  They don’t cost much, so I can save my best quality for the surface that really shows.

This was what was in the little cabochons assortment pack.  Love the photo.

My next order will be with Shipwreck Beads.  I can by a larger quantity of one thing and they have some great assortments that have colors that go together.  Like 4mm fire polished beads in a lavender mix for 1200 beads at 17$ or so.  Their  minimum order is 50$ I believe so I’ve been refreshing myself with their website to see how I want to spend my money.  I have gotten into a big ordering deal with Fire Mountain because I spend so much money that I want to get the volume and not worry about my big order.   Complicated I know. But it has been a year.

Thanks for tuning in.
